Donington Race Report

2nd November 2006

The final round of the Radical Enduro series saw the cars tackling the fast sweeps of Donington. It was Kinsella this time who nabbed both pole positions, but Padmore ensured the brightest car on the grid would be alongside him. Reynolds took the start, but a hairy spin through the Craner Curves saw him hand the car over in ninth position.

Padmore immediately set about making amends in the Tranzpower-run machine, setting the fastest lap at that point of the race. He came up on the tail of Roger Green, who himself had been working his way through the grid having started from the back. For three laps Padmore was held off in this intense battle for third place, until a hub failed (probably caused by the earlier spin) and retirement beckoned.

The final race was to be held in awful conditions. The rain fell so hard standing water was everywhere and visibility was close to zero in the spray. You needed to be out front and that’s exactly where Padmore was, taking the lead on the first lap and pulling out a ten second gap by the end of his twenty minute stint. Team mate, Austin Reynolds put in a sterling drive of his own so that the team finished the season comfortably on the SR8 podium in second place.
