Silverstone Success for Padmore & Kane

17th April 2012

British sportscar racer Nick Padmore, and co-driver Gary Kane, battled through mechanical problems to bring home a win and a 3rd place finish in the Radical UK Cup's Supersport Class at Silverstone last weekend.

The RAW Motorsport pair qualified 3rd for both of Sunday's races despite neither driver feeling totally comfortable with the car.

Kane started Race 1 and kept their entry strong in contention for his stint, enjoying a battle with the AF Noble car for P2, before handing over to Padmore at the end of lap 10.

Reigate's Padmore rejoined and continually gained on the AF Noble car before making his move for the lead into Brooklands on lap 17, pulling nearly a 3-second lead in the final three laps to take the win after 40 minutes of racing.

In Race 2 Padmore made a good start after the pace car came in and then managed to avoid a collision and spinning car at Copse, but the incident dropped him back and he lost ground on P2.

Struggling with power issues, he held on to 3rd position and handed the car over to Kane just past the half race distance mark. Kane continued to keep the car in the running for the remainder of the race and brought it home, taking a hard-earned podium finish.

Nick Padmore:
"It's been a tough weekend but I think Gary and I got the most we could out of the car in both races. We're certainly pleased to have won the first race and score good points in both races which has kept us in the championship lead.

"We were down on power all weekend - 5mph down at the speed traps - which harmed us most in the second race. After the incident at the first corner, I was nudged off the track by an SR8 and there was just no way we could have caught back the ground we lost. From then on it was just a case of trying to maintain the position and maximise our points."

Padmore now switches back to his duties in the French V de V Championship where he, and co-driver Jean-Lou Rihon, lie 2nd in the championship as they prepare to return to action for Round 2 at Le Mans, France on 27-29 April.
