VW Fun for Padmore & Reynolds at Oulton

18th October 2010

British sportscar racer Nick Padmore joined his former Radical Enduro co-driver, Austin Reynolds, in the VW Fun Cup 4-hour at Oulton Park on Saturday.

Having drawn grid slot 15 from the bag, Reynolds started the race and gave the spectators great value for money as he battled his way up to P7 with some classic 'on the grass' overtaking before bringing the car in to Reigate's Padmore after 40 minutes.

They held on to position and Padmore rejoined the race as he carried on Reynolds' form in his opening stint to get himself up to P2. Challenging the leader, Padmore just clipped a tyre bundle at the chicane, which had shifted onto the racing line, having been hit on the previous lap, and had to bring the car in with tracking problems, costing the Richmond Racing squad 9 minutes in the pits.

Once back in the running they clawed their way up to 11th, and 5th in the diesel class, when the car then started losing power. Padmore jumped in and soon realised there was no turbo boost before bringing the car back in to change the boost pipe.

Eventually they rejoined the race albeit way down the order and crossed the line in a lowly 15th place.

"What a race!", said Padmore. The racing in this championship is in a league of its own and definitely lives up to its name as it's just so close and anything can happen, which I think was proved today.

"Unfortunately I clipped the tyres whilst battling for the lead which cost us some time but Austin drove faultlessly. His start was mega and I probably enjoyed it as much as he did just watching it from the pit wall!"

Padmore now travels to France for the penultimate round of the French V de V Championship at Magny-Cours this weekend, where he will be hoping to carry on the form that handed them P4 last time out at Dijon.
