Padmores Pleased with Performance Progress at Masters Historic Festival

19th March 2012

The father-son duo of Keith and Nick Padmore opened their 2012 historics season with a solid and promising performance at the Masters Historic Festival at Oulton Park last weekend. The put in their entry with their privately-prepared 1965 Mini Cooper S in the Pre '66 Saloon Car race hosted by the Oulton Park International circuit in Cheshire.

Padmore Jr. qualified on class pole, and 5th overall, on a drying track, despite the field consisting of more powerful Falcon's, Cortina's and BMW's.

With the track fully dry for the afternoon's one-hour race, Padmore Sr. started and immediately got stuck in the action by getting passed three cars as he settled into his stint. However, towards the end of his 30-minutes in the car he backed off to conserve the engine before handing over to Padmore Jr.

The pair took the chequered flag with Padmore Jr. behind the wheel, narrowly missing out on a podium, with 4th in class.

Nick Padmore:
"It's been a very positive weekend for us. We had a lot of reliability issues with the car last season so it's a promising start to our year.

"The main thing for us this weekend was to get the car to the finish so both of us thought it was sensible to back off a bit in our stints, but being so high up the grid in qualifying and achieving a solid result in the race give us more faith in the car which is just so important."

Nick Padmore heads to Barcelona next week where the 2012 French V de V Championship commences at Catalunya on the 30th March. After narrowly missing out on championship honors last year, he and co-driver Jean-Lou Rihon will be looking to continue the strong form they displayed in the latter half of the season and mount a serious challenge from the outset.
