Padmore Eyeing Success at Silverstone Classic

19th July 2011

British racing driver Nick Padmore is gearing up to make a return to the annual Silverstone Classic at the infamous Northamptonshire circuit for the third year running this weekend.

The Reigate-based French V de V regular, who finished in 2nd position at Dijon in the championship at the beginning of the month, will feature in the World Sportscar Masters and U2TC (Under 2 Litre Touring Cars) races.

Padmore will share a 1971 Lola T212 prototype with historic racer Phil Hall for the second year in succession, having stormed to class pole position and claiming P2 at the event in 2010, matching his 2009 result. Also he will once again team up with his father Keith, campaigning their privately-entered 1965 Mini Cooper S, in a field that is set to consist of over fifty entries.

Nick Padmore:
"I can't wait for this weekend; it's always such a great meeting with a real sense of atmosphere.

"The Lola is a mega car and, after finishing 2nd in it last year and a successful test at Donington recently, I think we are in a strong position to go one better and win our class. It won't be easy and you never know what hurdles motorsport can sometimes throw at you, but I think if all goes to plan we'll be a force to be reckoned with. Phil (Hall) has given me a great opportunity for this weekend so hopefully we can deliver a result to celebrate.

"Also it's always a pleasure to share the Mini with my dad. We have had a lot of fun racing it in the past, but our competitive side always creeps out so we'll of course be looking for a good result. It will be manic with so many cars on the grid, and we're running in the 'up to 1300cc class', so there will be faster cars to contend with as well as fighting our own battles, but a great race for us and also for the spectators."

Qualifying for the World Sportscar Masters takes place on Friday, with the 50-minute race scheduled for 4.00pm on Sunday. The U2TC qualifying session will also be held on Friday and the race set for Sunday morning.
